hey so in these 569 words my lovely Brittani is wearing this. |
There was something about being outside that made it easier for Brittani to write her songs. She could still write inside, but the fresh air had an odd, wonderful effect on her that she was willing to go find a comfy park in the big city just to crank out the end of a song that she had been having some trouble with.
It wasn't hard to find Millenium Park while Brittani swerved out of the way of people here and there on the sidewalk. Tall trees stretched easily into view, and she let out a small sigh of relief she hadn't realized she had been holding. The two-tone-haired girl crossed the street after a few moments, and made her way to a section of the park with empty spots of grass for people to sit on, have a picnic, and maybe look up at the clouds. None of that was what Brit had planned, but it was still the perfect spot for what she wanted.
Settling in, she unhooked her guitar case and pulled out her only close friend at the time. Brittani crossed her legs and placed the guitar in her lap, fingers darting lightly over the strings, only ghosting plucks and not actually making any noises. It took her a moment to recall what she had been working on before she began to hum and nod her head, finally beginning to strum what little she had. In her standards, it was a better beginning than normal, but once she got to the bridge, her mind turned to goop. She didn't know where it was going, and she felt like she was never going to make any progress. But Brittani knew how to get through a block like this. She looked around the park for a moment, taking a few deep breaths of the fresh air and watching a bird soar low across the grass.
Two minutes passed before the freshman began to play what she already had one more time. She ought to be alright now. Once she gave herself a moment to sit back, she generally could get at least a few bars done. It wasn't the most ideal way of working for her, but there was no way around it.
Some point along the way, Brittani's eyes fluttered closed as she focused, humming on a very quiet level. No one would be able to hear her unless they were within two feet of her. Which, in her case, never happened. In her beginning of her high school and all of her middle school education, no one wanted to even be in the same class as her. Though she was determined to not let herself be isolated this year, song writing time was her time. She wouldn't be grumpy if someone approached her, of course, but she wasn't looking for a conversation. But... she could use an opinion about what she had finished already. There was no one she really knew around here, and therefore no one she could ask without being a complete weirdo, which was something she was trying to desperately avoid (in her defense, she wasn't that weird, some people just didn't like people who were even the slightest bit different). So, she continued playing at humming, stopping here and there to think and write down lyrics in a small book she had pulled out of the bottom of her guitar case.
