Even though it was still just the beginning of the semester, Layla was frantically practicing her music for the end of semester jury. She’d done it twice before, so in the back of her mind, she knew that she really could do it. Her main concern was that she would just get so nervous that she would panic and forget what she was supposed to do. That happened a few times when she had played for her piano teacher in the past. Of course, it hadn’t helped that she hadn’t gotten a good night’s sleep the night before – purely because she had been so nervous about having to play for her piano teacher. It was just a vicious cycle with her, honestly.
It was on an early Saturday morning when Layla made her way to the main stage of Beethoven Hall. The place was practically abandoned, which was why she had planned things this way. She was nowhere near confident enough to play this complicated piece in front of anyone, but she wanted to get used to playing up on the stage as soon as possible. She ascended the stairs slowly, acting as if she were walking to her doom before gently placing the music on the piano and beginning to play.
It started off good enough, but as soon as she hit the 64th notes. She had marked the passage with a red colored pencil because she knew that she was going to have difficulties with it. Layla tried to play through it several times, but she made a mistake every single time. She showed her frustration by letting her head collide with the keyboard and she stayed there, making frustrated noises.
